“Why there is a cat in our laundry basket?!”
Blaine poked his head into the laundry room, trying (and failing miserably) to look innocent. “A cat? Oh! You got a cat?” Kurt eyed his boyfriend with narrowed eyes, a look of ‘do you think I’m stupid?’ on his face. “…ok.” Blaine said, chewing his bottom lip. “I…may have something to do with this.”
“You may? Blaine – there’s a cat in our laundry basket!”
“Samsonite likes warm things.”
“Samsonite? You named him after luggage?”
“No! I—oh I guess I did.”
“Blaine we can not have a cat.” Blaine’s face immediately fell, and Kurt actually felt guilty. Like he’d just ripped a lollypop from a toddler’s hand. “Where did you even get him anyway?”
“Well, I was at the mall returning that sweater Rachel got you and I was at the Outlet Mall and you know how that’s the one with the ASPCA on the one end? With the cat room with the glass wall?”
Kurt groaned, he specifically avoided that mall (and not just because it was an Outlet) because whenever he passed an ASPCA or pet store with Blaine they would be stuck there for hours. Blaine cooed and aw’d at each and every animal in the place. Cuddling, kissing, rocking, he did it all. He never wanted to put them down.
Blaine alone in a pet store was not a good combination.
“Blaine…” Kurt groaned.
“You don’t understand, Kurt!” Blaine said quickly, coming fully into the room and all but flailing his arms in his excitement. “I walked by and he was watching me. Like – like he just followed me and I was talking to him through the window and he was meowing back and I just had to go inside and pick him up and it was like we were meant for each other!”
“Blaine,” Kurt groaned again. “This is why I never let you into the pet store-”
“He’s not just any cat though, Kurt! They were telling me his back story while I was there. He was living in a house with 30 other animals and he was the runt of the litter and he was abused and neglected and then the animal police people raided the house and took all the pets-”
Kurt quickly cut Blaine off as he rambled all in one breath. “Blaine, breathe.” Once he did as told Kurt said, “That is a crazy story.”
“It’s true! Don’t you remember seeing the story on the news? He was abused, Kurt! And! And – they said he hissed at anyone who came near him! But he walked right up to me! He purred for me! He wanted me!” Kurt stared at Blaine was a raised eyebrow. He did not want this cat but he didn’t want to crush Blaine, either. “And he’s such a sweetheart – look at him!”
Kurt glanced down at the cat for the first time since he first popped his head through the towels. He was staring up at Kurt. His vibrant little green eyes blinked up at him. He tilted his head to the side before letting out a tiny mew. Kurt’s heart melted on the spot. “Ok…so…so maybe he’s cute.”
“Isn’t he? Isn’t he??” Kurt could see Blaine bouncing of the corner of his eye. “So can we keep him?” Kurt said nothing, he just smiled down at little Samsonite before glancing up at Blaine. Clearly his expression spoke for itself because Blaine was jumping up and down suddenly, cheering. “You hear that, Sammy? You’re here to stay!”
“I already have a puppy,” Kurt smirked, looking Blaine up and down, “I guess why not add a cat to the mix too?”
